Floyd Mayweather Jnr says there is a '90 per-cent chance' he will take on Conor McGregor if he returns to the ring as it is 'the only fight that makes sense'.

The much-talked about bout would pit the American in the boxing ring against MMA star McGregor.

The Irishman has insisted recently that he has already signed his part of the deal to face Mayweather.

We have to give the people what they want to see.

The former five-weight world champion Mayweather retired unbeaten in September 2015 after 49 bouts.

But Mayweather is clearly considering a return to boxing, with McGregor on top of his target list.

"I think the fight will happen" said 40-year-old Mayweather. "We have to give the people what they want to see."

"There's no rush," he added. "The only fight that makes sense to me is the McGregor fight. I guess I have one more obstacle that I have to get over.

"When we make a move it's going to be huge. When Floyd Mayweather fights, it's history."

McGregor, 28, has gone record stating the emphasis was now on Mayweather and his adviser Al Haymon to make the fight happen.

"The first and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off," McGregor told The Mac Life. "Congratulations to all parties involved."

Should it happen, Mayweather is 1/16 to win, with McGregor 4/1.
