Higgins happy for Parker to be underestimated

Joseph Parker's promoter David Higgins says he has no problems with his fighter being the underdog heading into Saturday's unification fight against Anthony Joshua.

The pair meet in Cardiff with the Kiwi defending his WBO heavyweight belt, while AJ's WBA, IBF and IBO crowns are on the line.

Joshua's haul makes him the poster boy for the division but much like the Brit, Parker is still to taste defeat in the professional ranks.

I think a lot of guys are overlooking Parker's clear factual advantages.

While his opponent has been on the canvas, being knocked down by Wladimir Klitschko before recovering to win in the 11th round, there have been no such problems for the New Zealander.

It looks set to be a titanic tussle on Saturday in Cardiff and the atmosphere provided by the capacity crowd are only likely to add to the occasion.

The pair weighed in on Friday and Higgins was happy to stoke up the raucous audience before they hit the scales.

Rather than shy away from the challenge, the promotor believes his fighter is being underestimated heading into the bout.

Higgins believes the fact he has never been knocked down shows the 26-year-old is a better boxer, while also insisting he is both quicker and mentally stronger.

"We do respect him however, I think a lot of guys are overlooking Parker's clear factual advantages," Higgins told the crowd.

"Joseph Parker has never been down in his life. It's true. Can't handle the truth?

"Second, he's faster, he's quick. He's got better movement and he's mentally tougher."

Joshua is 1/7 to win on Saturday, with Parker 5/1.

The Kiwi can be backed at 15/2 to triumph by KO, TKO or Disqualification.
