Golovkin positive after Jacobs bout

Gennady Golovkin believes his testing 12-round battle with Daniel Jacobs in March will help him overcome Saul Alvarez next Saturday night.

The undefeated 35-year-old Kazakhstani, who has unified the WBA, WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight titles, had never been taken the distance in a 12-round fight having claimed 33 stoppages in 37 professional fights.

I felt amazing going 12 rounds for the first time. Jacobs gives everyone problems.

However, Jacobs provided possibly the sternest test of his career before Golovkin came through their fight at Madison Square Garden in New York with a 115–112, 115–112, 114–113 unanimous decision victory six months ago.

But, rather than feel negative about his failure to finish off Jacobs, Golovkin is in no doubt that experience will help him when he faces Alvarez in Las Vegas.

"There are no survivors in my fights," said 'GGG'.

"Boxing is a business. If I'd looked great against Jacobs … if I'd knocked him out, then I would not be getting this fight with Canelo now.

"Jacobs was a very good fighter and gave me good learning experience going 12 rounds. I have never done that before. I felt amazing going 12 rounds for the first time. Jacobs gives everyone problems."

Golovkin is 8/15 to win the fight, while Alvarez, who defeated fellow Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in his last fight back in May, is priced at 13/8.
