Magpies open pre-season with win
Will Hoskin-Elliott took a step in the right direction as Collingwood opened the JLT Community Series with a win over Essendon at Etihad Stadium.
Hoskin-Elliott is aiming to come back strongly this year after five inconsistent, injury-interrupted and frustrating years at Greater Western Sydney.

The former No.4 selection said he'd had a good pre-season so far which boosted his confidence.
He played just two senior games in his final season with GWS due to quad and hamstring problems.
There were positive signs from him in the opening pre-season game, including a long goal in the first quarter.
He also plucked a one-handed mark in the last quarter and kicked another goal as the Magpies won by 11 points.
"[I'll] just see where I fit into the Magpies' colours and go from there," said Hoskin-Elliott after the 2.13.9 (105) to 0.14.10 (94) win against last year's wooden spoon side.
Hoskin-Elliott was one of a number of returning players to catch the eye, most of whom were in Essendon's side - six Bombers were playing their comeback match after being suspended for the whole of last season.
Former captain Jobe Watson took no time to get involved with the first kick of the game and opening two centre clearances.
Of the other returning Bombers, new skipper Dyson Heppell had 17 disposals and Travis Colyer kicked two goals.
Essendon led by 21 points at the final change, but two supergoals early in the last term - to Lynden Dunn and Travis Varcoe - lifted the Magpies.
They dominated the final quarter, with Jordan De Goey kicking two goals to ice the win.
Essendon are 1000/1 to win the Grand Final.
The Bombers are 1/16 to finish in the top eight.
