Belgium reach Davis Cup final
David Goffin is looking forward to being involved in Belgium's Davis Cup final against France after playing a key role in their semi-final triumph.
Goffin described his four-set victory against Australian number one Nick Kyrgios on Sunday as probably his best ever performance in the Davis Cup while Steve Darcis secured victory in the decisive rubber against Jordan Thompson.
Darcis emerged triumphant against Thompson 6-4 7-5 6-2 after Goffin had seen off Kyrgios 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-4.
"This was probably the best match I've ever played in Davis Cup," said Goffin afterwards. "The serve was the key. So many aces, high first serve percentage and to finish in the last game with two or three aces..."
Belgium also reached the final in 2015 and Darcis is keen to go one better following their defeat to Great Britain two years ago.
He said of the final against France in November: "It's the final we all dream about. We were speaking [with the French players] about this a few weeks ago and we said 'it would be so good if we could play against you guys', and I think they feel the same.
"It's going to be amazing for us to be again in the Final. Hopefully this time we can take it home."
France reached the final by winning their last-four encounter against Serbia 3-1.
Meanwhile, last year's Davis Cup winners Argentina were relegated from the world group after losing 3-2 to Kazakhstan in Astana.
Belgium are 5/1 to win the Davis Cup outright while France can be backed at 1/8 to triumph.
