Stanley coy on Petacular plans

Petacular wrapped up another effortless win over the weekend but trainer Michael Stanley says that is no guarantee he will head to New Zealand.

Stanley has always earmarked a trip across the Tasman for Petacular, but for the next month at least, he will continue to follow the original schedule.

Should Petacular end up on the Shaky Isles, he will contest majors such as the New Zealand Oaks in mid May and the Harness Jewels in June.

But first Petacular has to justify the trip during the upcoming Victoria Oaks series.

Victoria's Blue Riband will begin with heats at Tabcorp Park on 31st March, followed by the Final at the same venue on 7th April.

"New Zealand is definitely an option, but I definitely won't be making a decision until after our Oaks," Stanley said. "For now the focus remains solely on building her up for that.

"If she runs as well as we expect, then yes, a New Zealand campaign is there for her."

Driven by Stanley during her latest triumph, Petacular led throughout to score by 11-and-a-half metres from Keayang Secret, with Gilty Hanover 19 metres away third in 1:55.6 over 2240 metres.

"I've been easy on her since she got back from Sydney, so the run will do her good," Stanley said. "Now I will just keep her ticking along to be ready for the Oaks heats in a fortnight."

An Australian Pacing Gold graduate, the three-year-old stretched her record to 11 wins and five placings from 16 starts for earnings of $268,003.
