Winning streaks clash in Miami
The San Antonio Spurs, winners of five in a row on their current road trip, travel to Miami to play the Heat who have won four straight and have yet to lose at home this season.
Someone is going to be disappointed by the end of Thursday and the Spurs come into the game with the disadvantage of playing in Orlando on Wednesday evening. Manu Ginobili came off the bench to lead San Antonio with 20 points, hitting 6-of-9 from long range and Tiago Splitter, Boris Diaw and Nando de Colo all received decent minutes to spot the Spurs starters in preparation for Thursday's game.An away win with a point spread of +6 is at 10/11, while the home win at -6 is at 10/11.
While the Heat remained idle after last Saturday's win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Atlanta Hawks won their sixth in a row to close to within a game of Miami in the Southeast Division. Josh Smith, Al Horford and Louis Williams each scored 17 points and Smith and Horford recorded double-doubles in a 94-91 victory over the visiting Charlotte Bobcats at the Philips Arena.
At the Verizon Center in Washington the Wizards finally picked up their first win of the season with an 84-82 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. The hosts took a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter only to have the Bobcats tie proceedings in the final minutes of the period. Emeka Okafor's two free throws with 39 seconds to go eventually gave the Wizards the win and Washington now travels to Madison Square Garden to play the New York Knicks on Friday.
