Rondo a huge loss for the Celtics

The Toronto Raptors take to the court on Monday knowing that their five-game deficit in the Eastern Conference may not be insurmountable after news of the devastating injury in Boston.

The Celtics announced on Sunday that Rajon Rondo is done for the year with a torn ACL and the dynamic of the race for the final place in the Eastern Conference dramatically changed.

The Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and the Raptors are all within five games of Boston and each could conceivably make a run at the post season despite their less than stellar records.

The Celtics are 7500/1 to win this season's NBA Championship while the 76ers can be backed at 10000/1, the Pistons at 10000/1 and the Raptors at 10000/1.

The Raptors and the 76ers both host Western Conference foes on Monday with the Golden State Warriors arriving at the Air Canada Centre and the Memphis Grizzlies taking a visit to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The Pistons rest up after their two-point win in Orlando against the Magic and return to action on Tuesday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

On Sunday the 'new look' Los Angeles Lakers picked up their second win in a row with a 105-96 victory over the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder at the Staples Arena.

Kobe Bryant had 21 points and 14 assists, falling a single rebound short of a triple double, and six Lakers were in double figures as the hosts shot 55% on the afternoon.

Kevin Durant led all scorers with 35 points, but should LA sneak into the playoffs as the eighth seed, there were clear warnings in this game that a Los Angeles upset would be a distinct possibility.
