Murray set for Tsonga showdown

Andy Murray will need to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in his final group match to reach the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals after defeat to Novak Djokovic.

The US Open champion had made a winning start to his campaign in London with victory over Tomas Berdych on Monday and was looking for the victory that would all but seal his place in the last four of the competition when he faced Djokovic.

The world number three made the perfect start when he broke the Serb in the very first game before taking the set 6-4.

However, world number one Djokovic roared back into contention in the second set with some outrageous shots and forced a decider.

The match was in the balance right up until the death as Djokovic saved two break points before serving out to win a pulsating contest 4-6 6-3 7-5.

The result means the Australian Open champion will be into the semi-finals if Tsonga beats Berdych in the late match.

As for Murray, he now faces a nervy final group match with Frenchman Tsonga to keep his hopes of progression alive.

Murray has won his last five meetings against the world number eight, including the last two on hard court.

Murray, who is 5/2 to win the ATP World Tour Finals outright, also defeated Tsonga in the semi-finals of Wimbledon this year and should feel confident heading into the last group match.

As for Djokovic, he can relax and said he planned to celebrate his win over Murray in a rather ordinary fashion.

"I'll just enjoy this victory. I don't want to play my part in calculations. I have to walk my dog tonight. It's my turn. That's my primary focus now," joked Djokovic.

On Thursday, Roger Federer will be back on court again at the O2 Arena against David Ferrer in a game the defending champion is 2/11 to win, with recent Paris Masters victor Ferrer 7/2.
