Li delighted with Sharapova scalp
Li Na has revealed her delight at reaching the Australian Open final after causing a major upset against Maria Sharapova on Thursday.
The Russian star had only lost nine games on her way to reaching the semi-finals of the Grand Slam event in Melbourne but came unstuck against Li, losing in straight sets 6-2 6-2.
Li is now preparing to face Victoria Azarenka after the Belarusian managed to see off the challenge of the American teenager Sloane Stephens in their semi-final encounter.
Having overcome Sharapova to reach the final Li, who was beaten in the Aussie Open final in 2011, is hoping she continues her impressive form when she goes head-to-head with Azarenka on Saturday.
The 30-year-old said: "I always play well here.
"I'm really hungry for the title. I think this time should be maybe a different story or maybe the same story. But I will try."
"At beginning of the match I was nervous. I was happy to be back in the semis again, but for some reason I really wanted to win the match. I don't know what happened today. I just come to the court, feeling like, 'Okay, just do it'."
Li is 5/4 to win the first Grand Slam of 2013, whilst Azarenka is 4/6 to claim the title Down Under.
