David Ferrer was too good for the USA's John Isner in the fourth rubber.

Spain remain on course to successfully defend their Davis Cup crown after easing to a 3-1 semi-final victory against the United States in Gijon.

Spain will face the Czech Republic in November's final and are 13/8 to win the trophy once again. The Czech Republic can be backed at 1/2 to gain revenge for their defeat in the 2009 Davis Cup final.

I hope Rafael Nadal gets better soon because he is really fundamental for us.

David Ferrer beat John Isner in four sets to ensure victory after Spain had won the opening two singles matches.

The Czech Republic beat last year's runners-up Argentina 3-1 with recent US Open semi-finalist Tomas Berdych winning the decisive fourth rubber against Carlos Berlocq 6-3 6-3 6-4.

Berlocq was standing in for Juan Martin del Potro, who had to pull out of the game after aggravating a left wrist injury.

Spain hope that Rafael Nadal, who has been sidelined since June with a knee injury, will have recovered from the problem in time to feature in the final.

"I hope he gets better soon because he is really fundamental for us," said Ferrer after beating Isner 6-7 6-3 6-4 6-2.
