Wildcats make Singleton approach

Wakefield Wildcats coach Richard Agar has revealed he hopes to take Brad Singleton on loan next season from Leeds Rhinos.

Singleton scored two tries in the Rhinos' 40-24 victory over Wakefield on Boxing Day but has only made two substitute appearances for the Super League champions over the last two seasons.

He [Brad Singleton] was at Dewsbury last season and he benefited from that massively, but he needs to step up next year and do Super League.

"We have made an approach to take Brad on a season-long loan and we'd like to sign him before we go to our pre-season camp in Portugal," Agar told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"It's now up to Leeds and the player."

The 20-year-old spent time at Dewsbury Rams this year and looks set to go out again next year in search of more first-team experience, although Leeds coach Brian McDermott insists he has a future at the club.

"With the pack we've got, the form they are in and what we've done in recent years, it is harder and harder for our young players to break into the team," said McDermott, whose side are 66/1 to win the 2013 regular season.

"What they do need is Super League experience, so when some of the old stagers do move on they are not raw and green.

"The way of doing that is by sending them out on loan. He was at Dewsbury last season and he benefited from that massively, but he needs to step up next year and do Super League. We are working through that with Wakefield at the moment."

Wakefield are 7/2 to achieve a top-eight finish and 300/1 to win the regular season.
