Scudamore ready to ride Grands Crus

Tom Scudamore is ready for the leg-up on Grands Crus if the horse gets a King George VI Chase go-ahead on Boxing Day.

Trainer David Pipe is playing a similar last-minute game to the one he played ahead of the horse's failed attempt at last season's Cheltenham Festival.

I'm hopeful but we'll just have to wait and see.

Then he didn't make a decision on his participation until the very last moment and we appear to be into the same scenario all over again.

Grands Crus is 7/1 to win the King George VI Chase while Cue Card can be backed at 5/1 and Riverside Theatre at 5/1.

Scudamore was giving little away when discussing the situation at Towcester yesterday, saying: "Grands Crus is apparently looking very good after his breathing operation.

"I haven't seen much of him but I'm told he's looking fine and obviously we hope he is going to run.

"But David has made it clear that it will be very much a last-minute decision. I'm hopeful but we'll just have to wait and see.

"I've not sat on him recently but I'm told he's been doing very well in his work so let's hope it's all systems go."
