Irish Saint sets Triumph Hurdle marker

Paul Nicholls says Irish Saint has earned a chance of "something better" following his impressive win at Kempton on Thursday.

The horse won by 18 lengths in the Juvenile Hurdle, and although Nicholls is reluctant to talk up his chances, he admits he may need to test him further.

He [Irish Saint] deserves a chance to go for something better now.

Irish Saint is now 999/1 to win the Triumph Hurdle on 15th March, while stablemate Far West is 4/1 and Blood Cotil is 999/1.

"He's a horse I want to look after as we view him as a chaser but he deserves a chance to go for something better now," said Nicholls.

"I suppose he could come out again at the end of January at either Cheltenham or Haydock."

He added: "At the moment, Far West is very much my number one, but there are others still to come out, a couple of ex-Flat horses and another horse from France called Caid du Berlais.

"He would have run at Chepstow on Welsh National day in the Finale and might wait for the rescheduled meeting there in a week's time."
