Wenger warns of Wilshere burn-out

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is concerned that Jack Wilshere, who performed so well for England in midweek, may face burn-out in the future.

The 21-year-old, who missed the whole of last season with ankle and knee injuries, picked up praise for his sparkling display in Wednesday's 2-1 victory for England over Brazil and is expected to start for the Gunners at Sunderland tomorrow.

I had expected Jack to play only a part of the game on Wednesday but it didn't happen and because of his quality he will be exposed to that.

Arsenal, 4/11 to finish in the top four this season, are 15/2 to win 2-1 at the Stadium of Light, with Wilshere available at 16/1 to open the scoring against Martin O'Neill's side.

Wilshere has been a regular in the Arsenal side this term and has now represented England on seven occasions. However, Wenger is concerned about the youngster and has warned that he needs to be looked after.

He said of Wilshere: "It is not just the physical aspect but the mental pressure every time he plays. We will have to manage him well physically to make sure he doesn't face that burn-out.

Laurent Koscielny faces a fitness test on a calf problem while Thomas Vermaelen will not feature at Sunderland because of an ankle injury.

"The options are restricted, I will have to be creative," added Wenger. "We have Iggy Miquel while [Bacary] Sagna can play there and [Carl] Jenkinson the on right. But we have very good hope that Koscielny will be available."
