Arsene Wenger insists he is convinced that England international Theo Walcott will eventually extend his stay with Arsenal.

The 23-year-old former Southampton starlet's current Gunners contract expires at the end of this season and he has so far refused to pen a new deal.

I always am convinced that he will stay.

Walcott is currently in negotiations with the club over a new contract, but Wenger maintains he definitely will not be sold in the January transfer window.

"My gut feeling is that he belongs to this club and that I hope he will do it and sign for us. I always am convinced that he will stay," said Wenger.

"At the end of the day, can you pay what the player wants and does it fit with your wage structure?

"We have a wage bill that has to be respected. When we go overboard and higher than it is expected, I ask the board to do it and most of the time they follow my demands."

Arsenal face Wigan Athletic this weekend. The Latics can be backed at 4/1 to record a shock victory over Wenger's side while Walcott is available at 11/2 to open the scoring at the DW Stadium.

Walcott has scored 31 goals in 162 Premier League appearances for Arsenal since moving to the Emirates Stadium in January 2006.
