Torres happy with direct approach

Spanish striker Fernando Torres believes Chelsea are still moving forward even though Rafa Benitez's side have struggled to find the right gear this season.

Benitez has attempted to instil a forward-thinking approach since his arrival at the end of last year, but the frailties were again laid bare during last weekend's 3-2 defeat at Newcastle United.

We are trying to play more direct and we are attacking more and making more chances.

Chelsea host struggling Wigan Athletic this weekend and will be looking to get back to winning ways. They are 4/11 to do so and are 1/100 to finish in the top four this season while the Latics can be backed at 1/33 to be relegated.

Chelsea could certainly do with a maximum haul of points with the battle for Champions League places hotting up. The two Manchester giants look out of sight, but Chelsea now have Spurs, Arsenal and Everton breathing down their necks.

Despite the frustration with some of the results, Torres feels Benitez is trying to move the cohesiveness of the squad in the right direction.

Torres, 7/2 to open the scoring against Wigan, insists: "We are playing a bit different now. We don't pass the ball as much as we did before in the final third of the pitch.

"We are trying to play more direct and we are attacking more and making more chances."
