Pardew admits Ba concern

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew hopes the club can agree a new deal with Demba Ba as speculation grows over a January move.

The striker has a clause in his current contract which would allow him to leave the club for a reported £7.5million once the transfer window opens. He has been linked with a move to either QPR or Arsenal but Pardew hopes to tie him down to a new deal before too long.

I think he will stay, but there's a possibility he could go because of the clause that's still in force.

"We will either move Demba on or we will secure him in the summer," said the Magpies manager.

"Really and truly this window is the key, I think, because if Demba goes in this window, it will cause us a problem.

"I think he will stay, but there's a possibility he could go because of the clause that's still in force.

"In the summer - I won't let it run until the summer. I'll do something about it."

Ba, who joined the club in June 2011 from West Ham on a three-year deal, has already scored 11 league goals this season.

Newcastle sit five points above the relegation zone following their 4-3 defeat at Manchester United on Boxing Day and face a tough task against Arsenal on Saturday. They are 50/1 to win 3-1, with Ba at 8/1 to score first. A clean sheet for the Magpies is at 7/1.
