After weeks of protracted contract negotiations Liverpool have finally tied down starlet Raheem Sterling to a long-term contract.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a quick rise through the ranks at Anfield and, under manager Brendan Rodgers, the playmaker has established himself as a first-team regular.

Sterling has revealed his relief to get a deal over the line and is looking forward to developing as a player with the Merseyside outfit.

He told the club's official website: "It's every 18-year-old's dream.

"I'm just really grateful to be at such a big club like this.

"There's a lot more to be done. I haven't begun yet, as the manager has said. Hopefully I can kick on after the New Year and try to do my best for the team and the football club."

Sterling will have another chance to impress the Anfield faithful on Saturday, when Liverpool host Fulham in the Premier League.

The Reds are 4/9 to claim all three points, 10/3 to draw and 13/2 to lose to the Cottagers this weekend.
