Barry wants England return

Gareth Barry says he will work hard to regain his place in the England set-up after playing 90 minutes for Manchester City on Saturday.

The midfielder has only recently recovered from an abdominal injury that ruled him out of Euro 2012 and he has missed out on the start of the World Cup qualifying campaign under Roy Hodgson.

I am hopeful that if I can get a run in the team, and get some games together, I will be in the next squad.

However, he is determined to force his way back into the England manager's thinking by playing well for City, who defeated Sunderland at the weekend to keep up the pressure on Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.

"I have not spoken to the England manager, but I understand why I am not in it (the squad)," admitted the 30-year-old.

"My season hasn't really got going, and I am still getting over the injury.

"I am hopeful that if I can get a run in the team, and get some games together, I will be in the next squad.

"I am obviously disappointed because I want to play for my country but I am not ready to retire yet, and will just keep working hard.

"I am not going to say too much. I just want to work hard to get back."

England are 7/1 to defeat San Marino 4-0 on Friday evening, with Wayne Rooney at 2/1 to score first. An own goal to be scored is at 9/2.
