Pantelidis eyeing new contract
Perth Glory defender Steve Pantelidis is hoping that his positive performances at the back will convince the club that he deserves a new contract.
I don't want to move around too much, so hopefully I get to stay here for at least another couple of years.Steve Pantelidis
Pantelidis was brought in by coach Ian Ferguson as a back-up player who could cover some midfield positions in case of injuries.
But instead of midfield, it was defence where a vacancy opened up for him and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and made the centre-back position his own.
He admitted that he wasn't initially sure if changing positions so late in his career was the right move, but he went for it and formed a formidable partnership with Dutch defender Bas van den Brink at the heart of the Glory defence.
The 28-year-old utility player is out of contract at the end of the season, but despite the high quality nature of his performances, he hasn't been offered a new deal by the club yet.
However, he has made it clear that staying put is his personal preference and he would love to commit to the club for several more years.
Pantelidis said: "I definitely want to stay here, I don't really want to go anywhere else. This is my third A-League club now. I don't want to move around too much, so hopefully I get to stay here for at least another couple of years."
Glory are 3/1 to beat Central Coast in this Sunday's Preliminary Final, with the Mariners 10/11 to progress through to a Grand Final showdown with Brisbane Roar.
