Mulvey frustrated with player exits

Gold Coast United coach Mike Mulvey says he is fed up of nurturing young players, only to see them join their A-League rivals when their footballing education is complete.

The Glitter Strip club had recruited an unknown youngster James Brown from AIS four years ago but as soon as he started to perform well in the league, he began to attract interest and ended up signing for Newcastle Jets a few weeks ago.

We don't want to be seen as a nursery for Melbourne Victory or Sydney FC or any other team.

And in another big blow, GCU look set to lose another promising youngster in the form of Adama Traore, who agreed to move to Melbourne Victory just a few days ago.

It is public knowledge that Gold Coast United's A-League future is in limbo, which means more exits of the club's prized assets are imminent.

Speaking to Sportal, Mulvey said: "The work that we've done here in the last three years ... we don't want to be seen as a nursery for Melbourne Victory or Sydney FC or any other team.

"That's the danger. If you've got a development program you need something to aspire to. In the blink of an eye it could be taken away. Then you'd have to drive up the road to the Roar or interstate to Sydney or Melbourne. We don't want that."

Meanwhile, the next FIFA World Cup will take place in 2014. Australia are 12121/1 to win that tournament, while the hosts Brazil are 7/1 and reigning champions Spain are 12121/1.
