Iacopo La Rocca has inked a two-year extension to his contract with Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Italian has impressed coach Tony Popovic since his arrival at the club ahead of the start of their inaugural A-League season. La Rocca made a big impression with fans when he scored in just his second game, notching the only goal in the 1-0 win away to Perth Glory in week seven.

The team is one of the best in the league and the club is very professional and I really feel like I am fitting in well.

The 28-year-old, born in Rome, was signed from Swiss club Grasshopper after spending the first decade of his career in his home country, featuring 89 times for AC Bellinzona.

His new deal takes him through to the end of the 2014-15 season, joining Mateo Poljak, Shannon Cole, Adam D'Apuzzo, Ante Covic, Michael Beauchamp, Jerome Polenz and Youssouf Hersi in re-signing for the club this year.

La Rocca said: "The team is one of the best in the league and the club is very professional and I really feel like I am fitting in well."

Popovic said he was pleased to have secured the central defender's signature, adding: "Iacopo is very good on the ball and his distribution is a real asset of his and we feel that he can help us move forward in the near term and the long term.

"Once he gets his fitness up I think we will see the qualities he possesses on a more regular basis and we feel that there is a lot of improvement left in him."

The Wanderers hope the fervent support they have had from fans at Parramatta Stadium so far this year will still be in good voice when they face Newcastle Jets in their first "home from home" game at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday.

Western Sydney have won 11 of their 19 games so far, and appear to have a Finals Series place locked down as they sit in third place.

Western Sydney are 4/7 to beat Newcastle, who are 9/2 to take three points from the clash. The Wanderers are 13/2 to win the match 1-0.
