Heart banking on Coyne
Melbourne Heart are looking to veteran Jamie Coyne to help combat their defensive problems.
The 32-year-old has been recruited after a spell in the Indonesian Super League with Sriwijaya.
Coyne made 119 appearances over a six-year spell with Perth Glory which ended in 2011.
The central defender, who can also play left-back, had played in the NSL with Perth, and played 15 times for Sydney FC last season.
Heart football operations manager John Didulica said with a number of injuries still affecting the club, they would look to bring in another player in the next few days.
Irishman Steven Gray has been released after making just one appearance for the club, giving Heart room to add another visa player.
''We have opened up a foreign position on the roster so we can hopefully bring in a foreigner to bolster the squad before the transfer window closes," said Didulica.
"Having added Eli [Babalj] and now Jamie [Coyne], and with a few guys to come back from injury, we are well-placed to finish the season strongly."
The club has been hit harder than any in the A-League this season by injury and players leaving.
Young left-back Sam Mitchinson, who was earmarked to replace Aziz Behich at left-back, suffered a quadricep strain on Monday which will rule him out for up to four weeks.
Key striker Josip Tadic is set to miss several weeks after breaking his toe in Saturday's 2-1 derby loss to Melbourne Victory.
The club has seen four defenders - Behich, Michael Marrone, Curtis Good and Brendan Hamill - sold oversees.
Captain Fred has missed several matches due to injuries, while winger Mate Dugandzic has spent most of the season on the sidelines and striker Dylan Macallister is out with an adductor strain.
Heart are 13/10 to secure the win when they take on Perth Glory on Saturday.
A win for the Glory is 19/10 and the draw can be backed at 5/2.
