Del Piero plays down departure fears
Superstar Alessandro Del Piero has hinted he is close to agreeing to stay for a second season with Sydney FC.
The Sky Blues signed the Italian on a two-year deal before the start of this season.
But with coach Ian Crook having left, and the club sitting rock bottom of the A-League ladder, there has been speculation that Del Piero could exercise the opt-out clause on the second year of the contract.
However, the 38-year-old has moved to quell fears that he will walk away, saying he is happy at the club and is confident his agent - who is also his brother - can sort out a deal.
Del Piero said: "Everything is clear for me and the club ... we can do earlier than what we think about the contract.
"It's not a stress here for me. I want to put all my knowledge and my heart into (games).
"My brother (can) talk about that (contract) - it's his problem not mine."
He added: "I've spent a really good time here. At the moment I think the best thing for me and for the club and for teammates and everyone here is to concentrate about the games.
"We have to put all of our energy, mentally and physically (into games) ... not about other things.
"I'm really enjoying it here ... now we have to win a couple of games for more enjoyment."
Sydney FC look to pick up their fourth victory of the season by downing competition leaders Central Coast at Allianz Stadium on Thursday, before going on the road to play Adelaide and then Perth.
Del Piero said: "This is our moment. We have to jump over this moment with heart, with fight and pressure and a little luck for us."
Sydney FC are 7/2 to beat Central Coast, the draw is 14/5 and the Mariners are 8/11.
