Andy Flower believes Kevin Pietersen has done enough to secure a new England contract, describing the batsman as "excellent".

Pietersen's current four-month deal ends towards the end of next month and Flower sees no obstacle to both parties agreeing a full annual contract.

He [Kevin Pietersen] should be very proud of the way he's operated out here [India], both as an individual and as a player.

"The contract won't be a problem," said the England coach.

"Kevin has been excellent in every way. We don't all always get on with people all of the time - any of us in any walk of life - and everyone has made an effort to make it work.

"It's been really good fun, and he should be very proud of the way he's operated out here, both as an individual and as a player."

After not being selected for the original squad for the Test series in India due to off-field problems, Pietersen scored a hundred in the second Test to set England on their way to a comeback win.

"For him to score as quickly as he did there and put such pressure on the opposition bowlers really helped us turn the series around," added Flower.

"He's been excellent in the field and in the dressing room."

England take on India in the first Twenty20 match on Thursday and are 6/4 to win the contest, with Joe Root 9/2 to be man of the match. A victory for India can be backed at 8/15.
