All-rounder Peter Trego has signed a new three-year deal with Somerset - a period in which he expects to become a County Championship winner.

Somerset can be backed at 1212/1 to win the first division title in 2013, while Derbyshire can be backed at 1212/1, Surrey at 1212/1 and Yorkshire at 15/8.

These are very exciting times for Somerset and I feel that I have got a lot to offer with regards to us getting that first County Championship under our belts.

Trego, 31, began his career at Taunton but spent three seasons away with Kent and Middlesex before returning in 2006. He is now likely to finish his career with his home county, for whom he has become an integral player in all forms of the game.

"Signing this new contract means that I will be playing for Somerset into my mid-30s which is a huge personal achievement," he said.  "Not many players have a career that length so I am very fortunate to get this opportunity with the club that I love playing for.

"These are very exciting times for Somerset and I feel that I have got a lot to offer with regards to us getting that first County Championship under our belts. It's great to be given the security of knowing that I am a wanted man."

Trego's impressive form has also seen him recognised further afield: two winters ago when he represented England Lions. Last year he featured for Mashonaland Eagles in Zimbabwe's domestic Twenty20, and this winter he is representing New Zealand's Central Districts in all forms of the game.

In fact, it was fair to say that during the 2012 English summer, the all-rounder was in the form of his life. He was named county cricket's most valuable player, after taking more than 50 wickets and scoring in excess of 600 runs in the County Championship.
