Clarke ecstatic with dramatic win

Australia captain Michael Clarke says his team's come-from-behind victory against the West Indies in the first Test is the best of his career.

This is as good as I've had, no doubt, because we had our backs to the wall for the first three days of the game.

On the fifth and final day of the first Test at the Kensington Oval, Australia managed to reach the target of 192 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

The West Indies were in the driving seat at one point during the match and that makes the Baggy Greens win even more amazing.

The hosts had made 449 in their first innings before Australia suffered a major middle-order collapse in their first innings.

The visitors found themselves down and out at a score of 8-285, but then tailender Ryan Harris played a magnificent innings of 68 not out to bring his side back into the match.

Australia declared their first innings at 9-406, which was considered an erroneous decision at that time, but it paid dividends as the West Indian batting line-up collapsed in the second innings, leaving Australia to chase a target of just 192 runs for victory.

Clarke's men chased down the target at 5:42 pm local time on Wednesday and did what once seemed impossible.

In the post-match interview, Clarke said: "This is as good as I've had, no doubt, because we had our backs to the wall for the first three days of the game.

"The spirit and the character of the guys in the change room is what drives you, I guess, as a captain to make a bold decision, to declare when I declared.

"The confidence around me from everybody in that group, there wasn't one bit of fear of losing that Test match - it wasn't spoken about. From day one of the Test, all that's been spoken about is what we have to do to win this Test match."

Australia are now 1/8 to win the three-match Test series, with the West Indies 150/1, while the draw is 5/1.
