Century boosts Watson confidence

Shane Watson had the confidence-boosting innings he needed to prepare for the tour of India, as Australia completed an ODI series win over the West Indies on Wednesday.

I love opening the batting all forms of the game but with that I do 100 percent appreciate I just want a spot in the Test team, I am happy to fit in anywhere.

Watson was back after injury, and opening the batting in the third game of the series at the Manuka Oval.

In his first appearance since injuring a calf in the Boxing Day Test against Sri Lanka, he scored 122 from 111 deliveries.

Watson's knock included 12 fours and two sixes as Australia wrapped up a 39-run win to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

"I was starting to worry that I might not have enough form going into the India Test series but it was nice to get back into form," he said.

"When you don't play for a while you sometimes think you have lost it so it's nice to be back. The more I score in any form of the game the more chance I have of turning scores into bigger ones.

"Today was certainly one of the steps along the line. I love opening the batting all forms of the game but with that I do 100 percent appreciate I just want a spot in the Test team, I am happy to fit in anywhere."

Watson admitted his previous form this summer had been below his expectations. In five Test innings, he scored just 153 runs at an average of 30.6.

He has given up his all-rounder role in the team in the short-term, in order to nurse his body, but proved on Wednesday that he can be just as effective as an opener.

Australia are 2/5 to win the fourth ODI, with the West Indies priced at 2/1.

Shane Watson is 3/1 to be Australia's highest scorer.
