St Kilda lose Gram for a month
With just a few days to go until the start of the new season, St Kilda have suffered a major injury blow as Jason Gram will be sidelined for a month.
Last weekend, Gram took part in a practice match for St Kilda's VFL affiliate side Sandringham and damaged his hamstring in that match. As a result of the setback, the 27-year-old is not expected to be available for AFL action until at least Round 5.
St Kilda will start their season with an away match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on 1st April. The Saints are 11/25 to win that match, while their opponents are 9/5 to do the same.
Gram is expected to join his Saints team-mates in training after two weeks but will require an additional fortnight before being considered for AFL duty again.
St Kilda had managed to survive their pre-season campaign relatively unscathed, with James Gwilt (knee) and Raph Clarke (calf/hamstring) their only injury concerns.
Lenny Hayes experienced concussion in a friendly match against the Magpies last week but he is expected to be fit to play before the clash with the Power next weekend.
Gram joined St Kilda from Brisbane at the end of the 2003 AFL season after finding it extremely hard to break into the Lions' senior squad. In the last eight seasons for the Saints, he has played 139 games and scored 65 goals.
