Ivanovic opts to call it a day
Ana Ivanovic is convinced that she has made the right decision after opting to retire from tennis at the age of 29.
The Serb, who won the French Open in 2008, has been unable to play since August because of injury.
The former world number one, who had dropped to 63 in the world rankings, admitted: "It hasn't been an overnight decision. It's been on my mind for a little bit but I tried to also follow my heart because, for me, it's proven to be the best way.
"I started to play tennis because I loved the game. Now I still love the game but I feel it's time to move on for various reasons. I've been a little bit unfortunate with some injuries that I had.
"I feel very fortunate and so I want to give back and maybe help others be as fortunate as I was."
Ivanovic won 15 singles titles during her career and, as well as her French Open triumph in 2008, she was the runner-up in Paris and Wimbledon in 2007 and at the 2008 Australian Open.
Serena Williams is 5/2 to win the 2017 Australian Open outright, while Angelique Kerber is available at 10/3 and Simona Halep at 1212/1.
